The Overview Window displays all of the pictures of various sizes and depths that make up an icon. These are called icon elements. You can double-click on one to edit the image it represents. You can also drag from one icon element to another to duplicate the image.

You can cut or copy any selected icon element from the edit menu. You can then paste the icon resource directly into a resource editor such as ResEdit or any application prepared to accept icon data pasted into it.

To remove an icon element, select it and click the Remove Icon Element button in the bottom center of the Overview Window, or select Clear from the edit menu. Remember that if you make a mistake, you can always Undo it from the Edit menu.

The Mask elements on the right-hand column control which parts of the icon are clickable and which parts are visible. A description of masks can be found here.

In Icon Brush II, the overview window is resizable in the vertical direction. You can make the window smaller and a scrollbar will appear on the right, which is used to scroll various icon elements into view.

Another feature introduced in version II is the ability to drag-select multiple icon elments. This works just like in the finder, and saves you the trouble of shift-clicking a bunch of consecutive elements.

The overview window also has a contextual menu. Control-click in the window and on icon elements and a contextual menu pops up, allowing you quick access to common commands.
